1991 ford ranger 4x4 (thanks everyone for your imput)?

engine light has come on and has gone off, so transfer case? Can we do this? It is a plow truck for yard use only and snow is coming again. Bought just for plowing my home, we have rebuilt the top of the motor, just replaced alternator yesterday, funds are depleting as am unemployed and doing work myself.
